Radwinter Road Safety ReportI am pleased to report that, all Year 12 students at SWCHS will have an opportunity to participate in the Motorwise programme this autumn. We are all aware that young drivers are involved in very much greater rate of accidents than more experienced drivers, and the Motorwise program underlines that driving is about much more than basic vehicle control, but anticipation and hazard perception. In Radwinter, the resurfacing of the B1053 at Stocking Green corner with a high grip surface and additional reflective posts appear to be doing a very good job. This resurfacing was prompted by the Parish Council’s representations to Essex Highways that highlighted the slippery surface and poor accident history here. In 2004, we had 6 reported accidents at this corner alone, and this was down to just 1 in 2005 (which was due to black ice, and occurred in February before the road was resurfaced.) Recently we have seen most of the B1053 in Radwinter Parish resurfaced with a proper tarmac surface rather than the rather temporary surface dressing, but there are still significant potholes and the Parish Council is writing to Essex Highways to come back and finish the job!One of the factors that helped us persuade Highways that Stocking Green corner needed serious attention was the record of accidents and locations that I log. To do this effectively I need input from any resident that sees an accident occur, or is aware that one that has taken place. Either fill in a report card from the Post Office, or call me on the number listed under Radwinter Parish Council on this site.Dave Smith (Radwinter PC Road Safety Representative) |
